ABOUT OUR DISTRICT
District 5 is home to roughly 156,000 people across Browns Point, Dash Point, Fife Heights, the City of Fife, Midland, Riverside, North Clover Creek/Collins, Parkland, Spanaway, Summit-Waller, the Port of Tacoma, and Tacoma's Eastside and Northeast neighborhoods. It's one of the most diverse districts in Pierce County — roughly half of residents are people of color, and District 5 has the highest share of foreign-born residents of any district in the county, with an estimated 24,000 neighbors who were born outside the United States. Nearly 1,400 acres of Tribal Trust Lands sit within the district, and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians remains a valued partner in community life here.
It's also a working district, anchored by the Port of Tacoma, one of the busiest container ports in North America and a major source of good, family-wage jobs for the region. From the farming families who built Fife to the neighborhoods that grew up alongside the port, District 5's strength has always come from the people who show up for one another and build community together.
