Accomplishments

When Bryan Yambe was appointed to the Pierce County Council in 2025, he made a commitment to hit the ground running.

In his first year, he has worked across issue areas to deliver tangible results — strengthening public safety, supporting housing stability, investing in infrastructure, and staying deeply engaged with the communities of District 5.

Housing Stability & Homelessness Solutions

Bryan understands that housing affordability and homelessness are urgent challenges across Pierce County — and that solutions require data, funding, and sustained coordination. His focus is simple: prevent displacement whenever possible and make sure people experiencing homelessness have pathways to stability.

Strengthening the County’s Homelessness Response

  • Participats annually in the Point-in-Time Count, working alongside hundreds of volunteers to collect critical data that guides federal and local homelessness funding decisions.

  • Supported county budget investments that expand behavioral health and housing stability programs.

  • Helped advance a unified regional approach to homelessness, working with regional partners through the Elected Leadership Group to better coordinate services and resources across jurisdictions.

Supporting Affordable Housing Investments

  • Supported Pierce County Council’s approval of $12.2 million for four housing projects creating or preserving 646 affordable homes for individuals and families across the county.

  • Helped secure $5 million to rehabilitate the Chateau Rainier apartments in Fife, preserving 248 units of deeply affordable housing for households earning 30% of Area Median Income.

Helping Families Stay in Their Homes

  • Promoted property tax exemption and deferral programs for seniors and residents with disabilities to help families remain in their homes despite rising costs.

  • Advocated for continued funding for rapid rehousing and supportive housing services through the county’s biennial budget.

  • Promoted the County Auditor’s Owner Alert program, helping homeowners safeguard their property from fraud.

Public Safety & Community Well-Being

Public safety requires both strong emergency response systems and smart prevention strategies. Bryan believes accountability and compassion can — and must — work together to keep communities safe.

Passed a Budget that Prioritizes Safety

  • Helped pass the 2026–2027 Pierce County biennial budget, protecting core public safety services while also investing in behavioral health and crisis response.

  • Supported funding increases for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and emergency management services, strengthening response capacity across the county.

Strengthening the Justice System

  • Passed legislation establishing the Pierce County Justice Fund, creating a sustainable source of funding to reduce crime and support fair, effective law and justice systems.

  • Includes committed investments in deputies and corrections staff with hiring and retention incentives, expands use of body-worn cameras to corrections, provides needed updated equipment and upgrades to facilities and technology

  • Commits to community-focused results by dedicating funds for youth development programs and improved transparency with faster, more reliable public records responses

Investing in Prevention & Behavioral Health

  • Advanced funding for behavioral health treatment expansion, including mobile and community-based services.

  • Supported violence prevention initiatives that address root causes of crime and strengthen community safety.

Economic Development & Community Investment

A strong economy is built locally — through community organizations, workforce opportunity, and smart public investment. Bryan is focused on making sure economic growth benefits everyday families.

Delivering Direct Support for Community Organizations

  • Secured budget support for the Mid-County Community Center, a vital hub serving seniors, families, and vulnerable residents.

  • Advanced funding for food assistance programs supporting District 5 households experiencing food insecurity.

Responding to Community Needs

  • Helped authorize $400,000 in emergency support for Pierce County food banks when federal funding uncertainty threatened SNAP benefits.

  • Directed $50,000 to Eloise’s Cooking Pot in District 5, helping ensure local families continued to receive meals and food support.

Championing Food Security

  • Elevated food security as a council legislative priority.

  • Testified and submitted support in Olympia for legislation including HB 2238 to establish a statewide food security plan, helping elevate the issue at the state level.

Supporting Workforce & Local Growth

  • Engages regional partners and economic development leaders to strengthen job pathways and sustainable growth.

  • Promotes county initiatives that support small businesses and workforce development opportunities.

Transportation & Infrastructure

District 5 residents rely on safe roads, reliable infrastructure, and thoughtful investment to keep families and businesses moving. Bryan continues to advocate for infrastructure investments that reduce congestion, improve safety, and connect neighborhoods.

Since his appointment, he has helped secure funding for improvements including:

  • Pipeline Trail Phase III, expanding pedestrian access and outdoor infrastructure in District 5.

  • The County’s Vision Zero initiative, committing to policies that aim to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.

Healthy, Resilient Communities

Leadership, to Bryan, means service — not just legislation.

  • Volunteered with the Emergency Food Network Repack Project, helping pack 2,700 pounds of food distributed to more than 75 food pantries and shelters.

  • Regularly visits, serves lunches at community centers across the district, including senior nutrition service and senior programs.

  • Volunteers regularly with organizations across the district helping action activities from cleanup, making food for those experiencing homelessness, and more.

Integrity & Transparency

From day one, Bryan has prioritized integrity, transparency, and accessibility.

  • Established a regular District 5 newsletter providing updates on council decisions, policies, and resources.

  • Hosts ongoing in-district community conversations — both in person and virtually — to hear directly from residents.

Bryan believes representation starts with listening and that government works best when it stays connected to the people it serves.
